Privacy Policy

Overview

Confessional (“we,” “us,” or “the site”) is a community ratings and tracking platform for reality TV at confessional.fan. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site and what we do with it. We try to be straightforward.

Information we collect

When you sign up and use Confessional, we collect:

  • Account information from Google when you sign in: your email address, name, and Google profile photo.
  • Profile information you choose to add: username, display name, bio, profile picture, and spoiler preferences.
  • Activity you create on the site: season ratings, cast ratings, tag votes, beginner-friendly votes, quiz answers, and follows.
  • Basic technical data from your visits: IP address, browser type, and pages viewed. This is standard server log data used to keep the site running and detect abuse.

What we do with it

Your data is used to:

  • Show you your own ratings, lists, and recommendations.
  • Display public community averages, top-rated seasons, and quiz recommendations to all users.
  • Power follows and the public profile pages.
  • Keep the site secure and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use your data to train AI models. If we ever introduce advertising or paid features on Confessional, we'll update this policy and tell you what changed.

What's public vs. private

Confessional is a social product, so a lot of what you do is visible to others by default:

  • Public: your username, display name, bio, profile picture, season ratings, cast ratings, tag votes, follower/following lists, and join date.
  • Private to you: your email address, your spoiler mode preference, and any draft data not yet posted.

If you delete a rating, vote, or follow, it stops being visible to others. If you delete your account, your profile and content are permanently removed.

Third-party services

We use a small number of vendors to run the site:

  • Supabase stores your account and content data.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Google handles sign-in via OAuth.
  • TMDB and the Survivor Fandom wiki provide some images. We do not share your data with them.

Each of these vendors has its own privacy policy that applies to the data they process on our behalf.

Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

  • Edit or delete any rating, vote, or follow you have made.
  • Change your username, display name, bio, or profile picture in Settings.
  • Delete your account entirely. All your data will be removed.

Children

Confessional is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, if changes are significant, post a notice on the site.
